i wasnt wrong wasn't i? that is an exception if they have more then 90 cos they need the extra stability. im sure the yanks would carry the same too.

It's not wrong in the American forces because they wear leather-desert type boot/soft leather as their uniform.
It's only wrong if the boots they wear are black or a 'shiny' type jump boot or uniform/combat boot where polish is applied - the Brits still do it I think, and various other countries. The reason for this is because the polish wears off on the rope, making it dangerously slippery. So they phased the feet out of the technique.
