Mercy Care is your non-profit hometown hospice. We were the first -- and are still the one and only -- non-profit hospice based in Horry County. We offer a variety of critical services to the community: hospice care, palliative care, grief support, veteran recognition, community wellness, volunteer support and children's grief counseling. Proceeds from this tournament will benefit our children's grief counseling program. This will ensure that counseling is available to children experiencing loss throughout Horry, Georgetown and Marion counties. The golf tournament was started by the Wheelers in 2001 to help support the children's program. Since 2001, the tournament has raised nearly $110,000 in the last 10 years for this very special program of the Grand Strand's non-profit, hometown hospice. Mercy works closely with the school systems and Department of Social Services to identify children who can benefit from working with our highly trained counselors. Hundreds of children in our community are deeply affected each year by the loss of a friend, family member or loved one. They may also experience a loss of another kind, such as foster home placement. Mercy not only offers individual and group counseling for the children, but also a camp twice a year geared to help these children learn to laugh again. Sign up to play today, become a sponsor, or for more information on the event or volunteer opportunities, contact Gladys A Velasco, at Mercy Care at 843-848-6480.
