@SgtCrom This is the distinction in my eyes. Galileo would not want you to believe his theory on blind faith. Nor we should we believe anything else on blind faith.

@SgtCrom I hesitate to call things of this nature ‘faith,’ because while it initially started out as an idea without empirical backing, he took action to remove every aspect of faith from it. He didn’t believe it on faith, which is why he constructed a theory and tested it. If his theory couldn’t be proven but he believed it anyway, would we praise him for his faith?

@SgtCrom I get what you're saying, and I do understand that science/scientific progress didn't just pop into existence by happenstance.
I think the key difference between religious faith and, say, Galileo's work, is that Galileo had a hypothesis, tested it, and lo and behold, it looks like he was right. His theory was based on observable outcomes, and it has stood the test of time.

If only Santa were real, then we wouldn't be lying :) I agree we shouldn't lie to our kids.
The irony is when it is nice and sunny outside that is when people are most likely to commit suicide. I guess people look at how beautiful it is outside and feel like they can't be apart of it like everyone else and it gives them less of a reason to live. Don't know.
Faith is just as bad as religion, really. It is the belief in something without any sort of evidence. There's nothing right with that.
