This is an excerpt of the 30 minute speech supporting the Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater. Reagan speaks of big government, high taxation, and the "war on poverty." He addresses foreign policy issues including the risk of appeasement, "peace through strength," and the Vietnam War. The speech establishes Reagan as an important figure in the conservative wing of the Republican party.

To a significant degree, Ronald Reagan's election to the presidency stems from this speech, given on national television on behalf of, and sponsored by, Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign. The speech remains amazingly fresh as a statement of modern American conservative philosophy four decades after it was delivered.

"bush started all this mess" Yes and he is gone and nothing more than history. However the one now we have currently is escalating what he started on a whole new level and is a pure communist too. We shouldn't be replacing war mongering neo cons with war mongering communist. That's not the answer. The ignorant libtards that support Obama currently are beyond help and completely out of touch with reality. All they know is he is liberal and black and gives them free stuff nothing more.

Deficit spending spawned the 'job growth" you speak of. That's not a booming economy, that's living on a credit card knowing you don't personally have to pay it back. If you do that again, at the rate Reagan did it, which resulted in a 190% increase in the debt, you will collapse the USA. Or another Bush Jr. which saw a 94% increase in the debt. Now the Neocons and the Tea party have stopped all efforts to return the tax structure to where it needs to be to cover the wars and the deficits.

I've inundated you with facts and logic. That was my summation as I grew tired of trying to school you on things you should already know. You say Reagan worked out quite well. You must not have lived through it back then, as the resulting recession and enormous debt left the country in a shambles. Not prosperous but failing. Bush Sr. faced the problem of what to do with legacy deficits spawned by the Reagan years. At $220 billion in 1990, the deficit had grown three times in size since 1980.

Obama is a socialist, he remains me of Clinton.

Obama have withdrawn from Iraq and soon Afghanistan, and i really doubt he will start any major wars, he is to weak for that! A weak president who bows to 3ard world country leaders? why is the big question!

Bush at least did not hide what he wanted, i give him that.

obama will do very little in the coming years, he is put in office to be weak.

But i know the law and my rights, so i really care less for the government, they have nopower
