The Americans were turned back Friday as they tried to take the children across the border into the Dominican Republic without proper documentation. They said they were going to house them in a converted hotel in that country and later move them to an orphanage they were building there.
"We can confirm that the 10 American citizens remain in custody in Haiti," said State Department deputy spokesman Gordon Duguid. "We continue to provide appropriate consular assistance and to monitor developments in the legal case."
The Americans have said they were just trying to help the children leave the earthquake-stricken country.
Some of the detained Americans have said they thought they were helping orphans, but their interpreters said Wednesday that they were present when group members spoke with the children's parents. Some parents in a village outside Port-au-Prince said they had willingly given their children over to the Americans, who promised them a better life and who said they could see their children whenever they wanted to.

  • These assholes were stealing children. Those kidnappers should be left to rot. Let them pray to god and see if he get's off his ass to do anything, let alone help his flock of sheep.

  • Now christians are talking other peoples children. :O/

  • I feel like networks like CNN are almost praising them for trying to save those poor innocent children. What they did was down right stupid and were even told not to do it by Haitian officials. You should be trying to improve the lives of the children/family, not just take them to the U.S. Also, on another note, Cuba has been sending hundreds of doctors and were some of the first medical teams on the ground. They are never mentioned on U.S news networks

  • @AceofDimonds0 Read the lastest from CNN. They hired a lawyer who is being brought up on charges for sex trafficking. His own mother said that he was involved. Stop being so naive. This Silsby woman was taking children to be raped or sold into slavery. This type of thing is happening in our own country as we speak. It happens everyday.

Just because a woman says she's a Christian and speaks with a soft voice doesn't mean she's doing good works. She was selling them for sex. Face it!

  • im sure they had the best of intentions. however some of the worst things imaginable were done with the best of intention. hitler thought he had the best of intention.

why were there missionaries in haiti in the first place. because it is easier to make someone convert to a religion when their entier country is in peril.

instead of making people convet to a religion, do something useful like bring water, food, restore homes.

  • This is just a way for Haiti to latch on to us for money you know bribery, lie, cheat and steal.
