A video of Prodrive's variable compression ratio engine taken at the Autosport International Show 2009, 8th January.
Apparently, the initial design was thought up in Holland, and Prodrive were enlisted to help develop the idea.
Apologies for the poor quality video though, and the sound was just surrounding noise, so you want to mute it!
@sasman52 Disadvantages include greater wear due to friction, more potential failure points, and higher manufacturing costs, not to mention the necessary research and development costs. Variable Valve Timing, turbocharging, direct fuel injection, and so on, have been around for 30 years, but most manufacturers are just catching on now.

Isn't this basically an atkinson engine ?

The advantages of VCR: Fuel economy, better power transfer and so on in my opinion are worth investing in... I'm surprised there aren't more companies pushing this design forward

@InsoniaSXPower - Nobody said Variable Compression Ratio was Prodrive's idea.. They happen to have a "different design" which removes the system's faults.
Well, atleast last time I checked it did.

SAAB did this before GM completely took over...
