Phil was bad on heroin then, and anyone that knows anything about opiates knows that it absolutely destroys your vocal range. Phil did what he could. I'm just glad he's doing better now. Such an iconic hero in music. Phil and Layne, as far as I'm concerned were equally as great and innovative. Much respect should be given to Pantera and Alice in Chains for opening doors for metal music. Too bad no one has actually traveled through those open doors. lol

Layne's voice is unique, You can't replicate it. I like this but only because I listen to it from a new perspective in that I know it won't sound like Layne.
