'It's just that it's the way that I like to play... Traditional grip doesn't limit me in any way. That said, I would not necessary recommend traditional grip. It is a far more difficult grip to maintain power with. Any serious student approaching this instrument would be better off focusing on matched.'

Tru that... the only problem i have with the whole thing is... the bass drum sounds like shit when its hit that fast... it turns into mush. Im all for speed, but not double bass speed.... its just doesn't sound good.

He should do something with Fredrik Thordendal
yeah!

I think that Virgil Donati should mess around with some Necrophagist.
"D
That would be bomb.

Hell yeah, this rules... Love to see Panet X tour with The Collins/Wardingham Project. Check out their stuff on here. They rule too...

Virgil claims playing inverted doubles on the bass drum allows him to groove better. He says there would be know way for him to play the whole song with doubles that fast playing them RLRL.

hey mate, check out my videos, i have uploaded the new version of dog boots, i think it may be the video you are looking for..
-
well, derek actually uses "normal" doubles, RRLL RRLL not inverted ones.. but i can see the confusion, it's hard to tell when it's happening so fast..
-
indeed!

Yeah man, I see that now in another one of his videos, but I thought it was more of like RLLRRLLRRLL, where the beginning foot hits once and then twice from then on out? I've seen Derek Roddy do the same thing you're talking about as well.
Note to spectators: The next time you're at a show, do not bring your cameras if you feel you don't have to. Just sit back, see with your eyes and enjoy the show. You'll remember it better.

no mate, it's actually RLLR, not LLRR.. it's inverted doubles, he never leads with the left. i've been in a clinic 5 feet away from him, and i saw this, plus he explained his double stroke roll technique with his feet thoroughly.. it's definately RLLR
