I have a question just quick. My horse is a really trained show horse, and he is trained to back up off pressure of the reins. I still kind of wanted to teach him this, but I don't want it to the point where if I'm in a show, that pressure on the reins means kneel instead of back up. Any recommendations?

how should i hold the reins exactly, i can have her bow by holding one leg up and saying down, but i want her to buckle her knees, how do i do this? also how do i get her on both knees?

Really cool vid~ :D

I'm not sure this is what I want my horse to do when I take up contact in my reins..?

thats sooo cute (: i LOVEE how he just eats as soon as he gets any where near the ground and doesnt stop haha even lying down (:

Had to chuckle when he started nibbling the grass after lying down... LOL
How do you keep your horse from backing up when you're holding the pressure on the reins? (I've tried this method once, unsuccessfully, I might add) My mare ended up continuously backing from the pressure. How can i do it differently and is there a certain way you have to hold the reins and apply pressure? Also, I've tried to teach her to bow with a carrot and tapping her leg. I have to practically put myself under her to get her to bow. She focuses on the food too much. Please help!

@EverythingEquine01 1) Continue to hold the pressure until your mare stops backing. Horses learn from where the release is. Do not punish her or let the pressure off when she is backing...she is closer than you realize to the right answer. 2) Hold the pressure until she looks or point her nose to the ground even if she is backing slightly (she has to learn how to shift her weight back). 3) Hold the pressure until she starts to paw or buckle at the knees. 4) Hold the pressure until she bows

@EverythingEquine01 The difference between step 1 and step 2 backing is in step 2 she is not backing to get away from pressure but to figure out how to go down so watch the gesture she makes with her head and neck and allow it by following her nose down.

Quick question? I've tought my mare to lift both front feet by touch, is she set in that way now or can she be retaught? Same question with other aspects of training she is a 10 year old could she be retaught everything?

@Zallein093 Hi There, Any horse can learn something new...they maybe set in their ways to a point but with patients it's amazing what they can do! I would not even implement the bow by touched her legs at all so that she does not get stuck on that. Start with a fresh method in mind and once she has the idea to bow or lay down than add touch...it will make it easier for her.

wow, that's amazing.... but how did you do to make him low his head, usually I try to do that with my mare but she pulls her head up instead.... should I use carrots?

@leyryka28 I do not use carrots, but certainly if it helps them to learn that is fine for the first try or two. It should take 10-30min to get the first bow using this method. Be patient to hold the pressure steady until you get the desired response than release and PRAISE!!
P.S. I can not make a horse do anything, I simply continue to ask until the horse stumbles across what I am requesting ;)
