Impressions de la Haute Mongolie. Hommage a Raymond Roussel (1974-75)

If like me you don't read Catalan or speak French here's the perfect opportunity to put you life on hold for 50 minutes and let the burnt in English subtitles demystify the madness that is Carry On Upper Mongolia. Or if you have a limited attention span, part 1"Hidden Hitler" and part 5 "Catalonian Happening" offer the greatest entertainment value.

It's fun to watch Salvador geeking out about Roussel's homophonic puns or Vermeer's ambient stillness. Makes you realise, despite his genius he is a aesthetic consumer just like us.

Credit for the original translation goes to Colombina Zamponi via UbuWeb . I just used VirtualDub and Vobsub to superimpose the text and edit the video.

  • actually, he's speaking French and the subtitles are in Catalan

  • @redpaul79 You're right, thanks for pointing it out. I need a proof reader. I spent far too long staring at this video while adding the subtitles. By the end of it I was a little snow-blind. I fixed one mistake already, auto-correct changed homophonic pun to homophobic pun. A little counter-contextual?

  • It's Erik Satie – Gnossienne No. 1. Andy

  • @itcanbecheezcaketime I think Regent means 7m 40s, that's when the guitar version of Erik Satie's Gnosienne No1 kicks in. Wish I could upload 7hrs+, I'm limited to 15min chunks.

  • @regentamariacristina

The video isn't 7 hours and 40 minutes long.

  • someone knows the name of the song that starts at 7h40 min?? Thanks!
