Every day, law enforcement officers
and emergency workers put their lives
on the line to save ours. Even a routine traffic
stop has become risky business.
In the last 10 years, more than 700 officers have
been killed in traffic incidents. In many of these
cases, the officers were pulled over to the side of
the road when inattentive drivers crashed into
them at high speeds.
That's why there's a strict law in Oregon designed
to protect the people we depend on to protect us.
Move over or it'll cost you.
The Move Over Law (ORS 811.147) states that if you
are driving up behind any type of police car or
emergency vehicle pulled over on the roadside with
emergency lights flashing, you must:
u MOVE OVER into another lane.
u If you can't safely change lanes, SLOW DOWN.
u In all cases, the driver must try to provide as
much room as possible for the emergency
vehicle.
This law includes Tow Trucks!
Each year 60 to 70 Tow Operators are killed on North American roads, making this industry the highest death rate per-capita second only to Law Enforcement Officers.

  • Brilliant... More people need to slow down...we have family's too.

  • We have that law in ohio, good luck holding your breath too see if it works

  • In California Its the LAW!! And CHP enforces it vigorously.

  • Same problem here... And we don't even have any move over laws here... I wish we had.

  • Just last month here in Wales a tow truck driver was killed on the side of a motorway after pulling over to assist a family stranded in on the side of the road. He told the family to get out and wait behind the crash barrier. When the driver leant down to attach the winch the motorhome was struck by a 44 tonne truck doing 70mph. He was killed instantly. The driver of the truck was arrested for falling asleep at the wheel.

  • bunch of idiots ive been moving over since i started driving maybe cause my family's in towing but more along the lines of its common sense hopefully some day people will get it
