  • I wonder about people who in their enthusiasm cannot look at anything objectively and then begin to use pejorative words. I have always liked her songs. Color my World for instance is one of the earliest songs in my memory. I simply said that this particular performance is not heartfelt. In the black and white version of Downtown you will see that this is a brilliant performance. The one below is of a star starstruck on herself

  • I sorta understand what you are getting at. Petula has sung these songs for the better part of forty years now, and even though this was twenty years ago, she wasn't giving her all, in like other performances. It looks like she wanted to have fun, so she played with the lyrics a tiny bit but also had fun singing, earlier performances showed that she was having fun but, not as much as she was after many years of singing a large collection of songs.

  • I would not know how these positive comments can be justified. Are the songs wonderful? Yes; Is Petula Clark a fine singer? Yes. But this particular rendition of piecemeal song lyrics is done in such a flippant way showing that she is there to boast her superstar image as though she were on the catwalk instead of being an artist. Granted, she has song them a million times but if she tires of songs created for her by brilliant lyricists she should not sing them

  • You are titled to your own opinion yes, but flippant portrayal? The songs she sings are always great, she isn't there to boast her fame but there to entertain the ones who cared to be there and to listen to her and appreciate her.

  • Yes , she can still hit it, just not as easy for her

  • is she still able to hit that high note today

  • @poetinasia Actually, as one of her biggest fans I can see where you are coming from. The two arrangements here aren't condusive to "from the heart" singing, which Pet ususally does with huge ability. But, as an officianado of all things Clark, I think Petula was having trouble with her voice that night. I can hear it. I think she may have had a throat infection or a cold. This would have been te end of the performance, and I suspect she was glad it was over.

  • everyone is entitled to their opinion but poetinasia you are an idiot of idiots. At one point in the 70's she had sold more albums worldwide than any other female vocalist but I guess that is not good enough for the likes of you. WOW, what a knucklehead!!!!

  • I simply met that in this particular performance she does not sing as if she believes the words. In her recordings and some of her television appearances she does but this is just a tacky performance
