The Diodes were arguably the best band to come out of Canada.

Here is their debut single from 1978. A prime piece of Old School Punk sadly ignored outside of their own country.

  • Dood, this song was NOT ignored! it was a HUGE On LATERISERSCLUB- the worlds first and most enduring punk rock show on WMBR, MITs radio in camb ma. - it was the first punk song i ever heard - Mr French mr French i'm feeling tense"- about the real life BUFFY on the very awkward sensless old B & W TV early 60's. "Family affair,' apparenly inspired by ART LINKLETTERS daughter, she sailed out of a skyscraper high on acid thinkin maybe she could fly. Well she did, but not that far!

  • @peterchoyce It wasn't huge in Britain mate (unless like me, you had Canadian cousins!)

  • Top stuff.

  • Good stuff! Saw these guys play a few times in TO. I have an autographed copy of this LP signed by the band. I may upload "Tennis Again" and feature my LP within the video...

    Cheers!

  • great diodes best punk new wave

  • @CatapultYourMom Exactly. And unlike the Diodes, The Ramones needed Phil Spector's help to do it on End of the Century (1979). Not saying that the Ramones weren't great, though.

  • Heard this on a college radio station in Feb. '78. Yes, I get what the song was about.

  • The synths in this song are awesomely addicting!

  • @CatapultYourMom

i'd say great Ramones were ANYWAY a bit less inventing (concerning the sond!) and they always had more... "bubble gum"! xDD

  • I wonder if her brother heard this and if it bothered him.

  • @srfrr In 1977, the Ramones sounded nothing like that. If anything, the Ramones ripped this sound off for their later records.
