I'm looking to do something like this on a much larger scale and wind will be an issue. Can you explain how you used plates to keep the wind from blowing out the candles?

I used clear plastic dessert plates and clear plastic punch cups and hot glue. I glued a tea light candle in the center of the plate then glued the cup on to the plate upside down over the candle. Then I took a lighter and burned a hole in the top center of the cup to allow me to light the candle and for the candle to breathe. If you make the hole to small the candle wonth get enough oxygen, if you make it to big the wind will blow it out. .....Good luck. If you make a video post the link here.

Would you recommend that set-up on uneven ground such as a field of grass? I won't be asking her for about another 3 months but after hearing how much work it takes, I might need all that time to make all of them! I appreciate it.

@uhtrumpetman I would make sure it is fairly level because your flame could burn sideways and melt a large hole in the top of your cup and the wind might blow it out. Do some expiramenting in different amounts of wind and get your design down before you make a bunch of these. I could only find the correct cups at a party store.

@JACraig517 I also forgot to mention that I think (cant remember for sure) I had to also burn two very small holes (one on each side) at the base of the cup where it meets the plate to allow for the proper amount of oxygen to circulate into the cup. It was a tricky science to get it where the candle would breathe but the wind would not blow them out.
