Monkees - I'm a Believer

In this video are three of the original four members of The Monkees. The 1960's made for television band had a smash hit with "I'm a Believer" (yes, the same Smash Mouth recorded tune for the movie Shrek 35 years later). It was legendary music producer Don Kirchner who helped originate The Monkees as a comedy TV band but once the performers realized they were pretty good they wanted to break away from Kirchner's direction. This infuriated the producer so much he created another hit TV comedy show with a band; only this time the members couldn't break their contract or take their music. Because this time the band, The Archies, was fully animated. We all know their cartoon hit song "Sugar, Sugar."

"I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone" was NOT written by Neil Diamond. It was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Neil Diamond DID write "I'm a Believer" and several other songs for the Monkees.
