Bens by Boat 2009 training session - 4th September 2009.

Boats full of water are outrageously heavy and hard to paddle (especially sideways upstream and upwind). One litre of water weighs one kilogramme so a cubic metre of the stuff weighs, quite literally, a metric tonne. Imagine a cubic metre of water sliced in half and laid in slabs in the base of the boat. I reckon three would fit, making about one and a half tonnes!
The crowd now includes a woman who sounded like she had done this sort of thing before (alas; she did not offer a demonstration). It was suggested that we try the deftly throwing and flipping the boat to land empty like a leaf on the water routine with the additional person. It didnt work. Put it down to poor technique and/or insufficiently buoyant humans Probably some of both.

  • Hey guys. Its getting dark!

And still the advice comes from the bank - Even if this is a Roylex boat, it is extremely difficult to "lob up". What does she think it is? A tennis ball?? :)) lol
