I'm so glad I'm not the only one to think that he failed miserably. If the God I trust in ask me to do such a horrible thing, then he is not my God.

Abraham had been promised by God that he would have seed through Isaac, so it makes sense to me that Abraham reasoned out that God would raise Isaac from the dead. Yes, it was a horrific act, but he had faith that God would restore his son.
But, no, that stupid opening was unnecessary.

by showing us what Abraham had to go through we can gain an insight into what God had to follow through to redeem us from sin. God gave up his son for us, but unlike Abraham had to go through with the sacrifice, he gave up something precious for us. As Romans says , whilst we were his enemies God loved us. I pray that you can find the love that has been given to us all.

@denverkipper Those weren't sacrifices.

Okay, first, the screaming rap music at the beginning wasn't necessary. Thanks.
Second, I wonder how many living, breathing, flesh and blood children have been murdered by a parent who was waiting for God's hand to still the blade because of this story. Thousands, you think? Hundreds of thousands?
Prophetic, indeed.

@denverkipper to watch him stumble or fall or to do something so inhumane. God wanted to see if he was willing to literally give up everything. Are we willing to give up everything to serve God? We don't have to literally kill a child (and God didn't have him either) but we should be willing to serve God over anything.

@denverkipper God never wanted Abraham to actually kill Isaac. Human sacrifice was forbidden by God but was practiced by Pagans. You might ask why God would even ask Abraham to do such a terrible thing then. I have asked that as well. I'm not sure why God chose this but here is my best guess. Isaac was Abraham's most important possession, he had waited so long for his son that when he was finally 100 years old Isaac was born. God used this as a test to deepen Abraham's confidence in God, not...

Remember the story of the Pharisees and Sadducees. They still live today and are needed to, according to God's plan. God's word is not for the use of argument, but for salvation.

Numbers 31 - please read it.
So how would you feel if god talked to you today and instructed you that an islamic terrorist family lived next door to you, and that he demanded that you take their 6-month old baby son and cut off his head with your biggest kitchen knife? Are you cool with that? Is that righteous & perfect justice? How about if he instructed you to do that very act to say 10,000 babies from "enemy" families? Cause that's what he did way back when.

I am talking about the child sacrifice that Abraham was willing to perform on his son. The Christian faith believes in sin for mere thought crime, so Abraham might as well have done it, since in his mind he was going to do it.
Also, I could just as well talk about god himself killing all the 1st born male children of egypt, or how about the Jews slaughtering all the males children of Midianites per god's command? That's ALL, including babies...slaughtered...per god's direction.
...because, if there is one thing "God" and my parents instilled in me as a pragmatic man is a well-tuned B.S. meter. And when I ask my Christian friends about these stories, all I get back are ridiculous excuses that make my internal B.S. meter buzz all the charts. So does anyone actually have a response that deals with the horrors of these 2 stories, or am I only going to get back a bunch of woo ha junk that is supposed to make me feel all better and warm & fuzzy????

God sacrificed His son for you. Or is that BS to you as well?

As a struggling Christian, it amazes me how so many can delude themselves into thinking this is somehow a wonderful story. It isn't. As a father, I was sickened when I started reading the OT and found this story. Abraham actually FAILED this test, as any father worth a cent would have told "God" to go climb a tree if asked to murder in cold blood his own child. How on Earth can anyone twist this story into an example of how to act as a parent. Shame on you all!

Abraham trusted God implicitly - Isaac was a miracle to start with - his wife became pregnant at 90 - God had promised to bless the world through Isaac. It was test.
You really missed the point. God sacrificed His son for you.

Great teaching. Brother, I noticed on the topographical map of the Temple Mount and Golgotha there were numbers. I assume that was the elevation. The number on Golgotha was (777). Of course you know that 777 is the number of God, 7 being perfection and three
7's being the Trinity. What do you think?

Yes 777 is the elevation... almost makes you think the whole thing is divinely inspired huh?
