This video was taken at the 2007 Landskappleik (Norwegian national folk dance and music ) Mesterkonsert (Master Concert) in Geilo, Hallingdal. Winners in a variety of categories performed.
This video is of the winner of the Class B laus/halling competition that year -- Ulf-Arne Johannessen from Ål, Hallingdal. This was the second time Johannessen had won in Class B (open class) competition which means that, in the future, he will be competing in the Class A (Master Class) competitions in this particular dance.
The woman holding the stick and hat is Ingunn Stræte Lie, who is often Johannessen's partner in pair-dance competition (and a very fine two-row diatonic accordion player in her own right!). The fiddler, who is playing hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle) is Arne Anderdal.
Just before the presentation, the Master of Ceremonies said that the reason the fiddler was not dressed up and Johannessen was dancing so early in the program (Class B laus usually comes later) was because the fiddler was going to have to run from the stage to catch a train at the local station.
Note how Johannessen checks his wristwatch a couple of times during the dance -- a little joke about getting the fiddler on his way on time!
Johannessen also dances with the FRIKAR dance company
