CHORUS: On the road, on the road
Who will carry our heavy load?
On the road, on the road
Where can we go now?
Our small farm potatoes grew
Just enough to see us through
Then the blight with skies of grey
Now the rent we could not pay. CHORUS
Early morning soldiers came
Dragged us out, our house aflame
No one shelter could us give
How are we supposed to live? CHORUS
Strong the wind and cold the rain
Food is low and there's much pain
Many fall along the way
Ireland suffers every day.
On the road, on the road
Weary from our heavy load
On the road, on the road
We will rest a while now
We shall fall asleep now
We will ...
