Stephen S. Fuller, PhD discusses the economic impact of Prince William County, Virginia's decision to enlist police officers in federal immigration enforcement.

The "Immigration Resolution" passed by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors on July 10th, 2007, required PWC police offers to ask for proof of citizenship when they have "probable cause" to suspect a person is undocumented. It also denied certain public services to undocumented residents, like drug rehabilitation and care for the elderly.

After civil rights and racial profiling concerns were voiced by the police department, members of the government, and Prince William County citizens, the Immigration Resolution was amended on April 29, 2008, so that immigration status checks take place only AFTER ARREST, and all persons who are arrested are checked, regardless of race, language proficiency, etc.

Actually, the IRS provides special numbers for undocumented workers so that they can pay taxes, which is a step board adjusting their status to become legal residents or citizens. It's unfortunate that so many people believe the myth that undocumented workers do not pay taxes.

Mindless anti-immigrant clones repeat the same four talking points endlessly and without revision, even as new information becomes available. That means the same 3 points will shut them up:

1) Immigration is federal jurisdiction, therefore Virginia and its localities DO NOT have jurisdiction.

2) The so-called "wedge issue" didn't benefit Republican candidates like they hoped it would (Obama wave).

3) With the economic slow down, anti-immigrant legislation is too costly to even consider.

How many illegal aliens GET these numbers and USE them. It seems to me that anyone who is ILLEGAL would avoid the authorities. Or is your information purely anecdotal?

He doesnt say a word about all the money the county saved not having to process the criminals through the legal system or how much the hospitals saved not having to pay for the free medical they all received. The school system didnt have to hire spanish speaking teachers to teach english. And no matter what you do not reward criminal acts period!!!!

they pay less in taxes than the americans that SHOULD be working their jobs would, because illegals are paid less than americans.

It's STILL worse for the economy because of the loss of potential revenue from taxes, along with the fact that those lower illegal wages causes ALL wages in that job market to lower accordingly. Job markets are like retail markets, there's a price competition, and lower illegal wages force down wages for citizens.

I live in Sonoma county CA and we are swimming in illegals but our cummunity is afluent and has a low crime and good schools. Marin county and Napa county, samething. All this stuff about Mexicans are the reason "my community sucks" is BS. It's propaganda.

Our economy is a disaster. We are $12+ trillion in debt, and our unemployment is at 10%+. Is this because we are kicking out illegal aliens??
