  • nice. sparks are fun. ye should make a bug zapper out of 1 of them :D

  • @V8Jagnut too much voltage and it will not stop arcing after a bug goes through :(

  • 5:15 How much for it and shipping to sweden? xD

  • @Serostern they are surprisingly heavy, it would not be worth it.

  • heh, i work in preston, just so happens we have ~20 of those white plastic units just sitting around now that we have switched to leds.

your comment about a bug zapper has given me ideas... :D

  • @tehxan mad :D, these big white metal case transformers must be made just down the road from you.

the white resinblock transformers would be great to put on ebay!, or even 4hv dot org , or other HV hobby sites

  • I wonder how big the arc would be if you wired all of the transformers' outputs in series...... :-D

  • why are the sparks orange and not bleu

  • I'm a tad late but PM sent. I never actually realised you were in Melbourne.

  • god damn i want some nsts, nowhere round here to get them cheap :(

  • they might work for 2min, but not for the long run. those are suppose to run 24/24 during years and years.

  • HI

Are those types of transformers really fragile and burn out if you short circuit or opn circuit them?

  • hmm some seem to have a bit more voltage than others, check the input current without any output arcing applied.

    Some secondary winding short circuiting?

I never made the mental connection between them and the 5kv microwave transformers, a senior moment on my side lol.

perhaps a line of stepdown resistors in series with your multimeter for say a division of 100 would allow you to compare transformers? so 5000 is 50volts on your meter, just a daft thought.

  • Near the end, the sound seems a little out of sync.

  • @Aussie50 yer thats the fun of it. it will sound good. :D
