because the leader of the tribe, the woman who reads the note, was educated, spoke several languages &

But how come she answered back in her mother tongue, which the messenger DOESN'T understand, instead of English, which they both understand? This is an Anglo-centric world view that is being propogated. Resist the Anglocentricism!

how do you know the messenger doesn't understand her language? he might have once been from that very tribe, which is why he was employed to be the messenger. i think the only thing your giving resistence to is your own imagination.
