@InternalBLDNG Chris, these kids have no idea what it was like back in the days of the Roxy when it was you, Necrosis, and Afterbirth warping and twisting our minds into mush. We were screwed up kids and now thanks to the utter brutality of the LI slam/death metal scene we are screwed up adults. Hey, remember when moshing was LEGAL???

@bizzybozzy1 I can understand your point of view. I am not a huge sub-genre fan either. However, like all music, as it matures, it splinters into different approaches/genres. Just as jazz splintered into bebop, fusion, etc., deathmetal has splintered into many different sub genres too.
When we started saying SLAM, we weren't trying to create a subgenre, we were trying to codify our sound, which we thought was different than all the technicality or melody that was out there.
-
@bizzybozzy1 that's true of any kind of music. jazz guys started playing just so they could imitate charlie parker or coltrane, but with their own interpretation of the sound. calling yourself "death metal" means you want to play death metal. where's the harm in that?
-
@confettiembolism666 It does make it worse because there are bands who are coming out solely for the purpose of sounding like slam because its a trend now days it seems
-
@bizzybozzy1 read the post below yours. straight from the horse's mouth. why do you have such a problem with it, anyways? it's just a style of music - the name doesn't somehow make it better or worse.
-
@confettiembolism666 well when you have been listening to death metal for almost 15 years and then this sub genre comes out called SLAM its really bothersome. Especially when a great album as this internal bleeding album is categorized as SLAM metal and not death metal...its really annoying...

Not to inject any controversy into this thread, but we were calling our music "Slam" as far back as early 1994, when we used the term "Total Fucking Slam" on our t-shirts. Before that, circa 1992-1993, we used to describe ourselves as "Barbaric Moshing Death Vomit." -- Chris/Internal Bleeding.
slam done right
