I think the entire point of a LWB in offroad is that you sit far back from the front wheel. I have a Cruzbike and If I go up some speed bumps at speed I get sent flying. You dont want to do that when you need steering ability.
@ponypruhest, Hase Tagun is more expensive than ranger (ranger frameset 65% off full price). Yes already decided overseat and heart set on LWB. If I build one will use rear of cheaper mountain bike (many have bolt-on rears to central frame). Remember seeing review of moded LWB with extended rear (cargo bike) and review said handling was way better because rider was more central - distributed weight 50/50 over wheels. So might be better build my own as planning long distance touring.
I think lightfootcycles sells frame set for international orders. Or build upon Hase Tagun frame. But you need a totally new rear end to mount at least 26" tires. A new front fork is not so hard, but you sort of need that too. SWB alternatives are Azub Hardcore/max, Meta-bikes MetaPhysics, Optima Condor/cougar/orca, possibly others. On bentrideronline he said that he advises for Over Seat Steering because Under Seat Steering is wider, which is a problem in tight places.
@ponypruhest, I have been looking the ranger for some time but is costly to import australia. Been toying with the idea of building my own, but if I can raise some dosh will get the ranger. Appreciate you passing on the info, thanks
He wrote on Bentrideronline that it is specially build for him. He also wrote that he considers LWB more capable offroad than SWB. There are a few commercially available SWB recumbents marketed for offroad, and some which might be converted for light usage, but he also wrote that if his bike broke, he would try a Ranger from Lightfootcycles.
@ponypruhest, Yes that makes sense, will scrub the 50/50 weight distribution idea. Best choice then is save for lightfoot Ranger. Thanks again
