My grandad worked on the Annesley line ..his name was Harold Mickelthwaite brother to Norman ...just wondering i anyone knew of him and i they have any photos or info ..I know he got to drive the Flying Scotsman :)

My Dad was a goods guard based here until leaving in 1962 approx. If anyone remembers Ernest Goodliffe (and it would most likely be your dad that did i know!) please send me a message . Cheers!

In 1954 I cycled from Sheffield taking in Hasland, Staverley and Annersley all in one Sunday, total 76 miles, and got home 3hours late to a good hammering off my Dad.
We were dedicated in those days, but a bit stupid as well.

I was born and brought up in Kirkby/Sutton-in-Ashfeild only a few miles from Annesley and as young boys[fro 1957-63 we would cycle over to this depot mainly on a weekends to see what stock was there; one regular sighting on the GCR line in the week was 'Master Cutler' and often worked by a 'Butler Henderson' D class loco 'Happy childhood days'

There still are some pointers to the mpd being there, the foundations for the south signalbox are still there even though the adjoining bridge has gone..

That's right. BR didn't bother looking after their steam engines in the latter days of steam because they were being replaced by the diesels.
It's a shame that the yard has been covered over. At least, in a way, it's been preserved (?) for archaeologists.

Lovely stuff. This would have been May 1964, when 46251 worked an RCTS special from Nottingham to Swindon, as organised by the late great Vic Forster. It would not normally have been anyhwere near Annesley, of course.
