As Ian Channell, a student at Leeds University, the Wizard becomes famous by appearing in the first three programmes of the immensley successful University Challenge. Leeds went on to win the first round.

  • They should still do it like this. Stirring music, cymbal crashes, clipped tones, chaps with beatnik beards, ladies backcombed, all in black and white, no questions about horrid pop music or the like.

    And Bamber looks damn sexy.

  • Use of the word "girls" to refer to young women shows that the age of equality had not quite arrived as yet.

  • I was hoping for Dixieland jazz. Didn't know there was an earlier version of the theme.

  • man, the music they used to have at the beginning was so much better than the music they have now.

  • The last question concerned the Merchant of Venice, these words are spoken by Portia, if my memory serves me correct.

  • The rules of the contest were much improved later - but nice to see an early clip.
