I am gradually sorting through some of my ancient video tapes to log what is on them, and caputuring some vintage clips whilst I do so.

Here is continuity, coming out of an episode of 'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe' (the first season's "Game Plan", 1983), and an advertisement break before going in to episode two of creepy childrens drama 'Chocky's Children'. This week Childrens ITV was being presented by Roland Rat, very shortly before he moved to the BBC. Unfortunately during this clip he was away and his friend Kevin the Gerbil is presenting instead!

Adverts include:
* Free Ghostbusters transfers in Shreddies and shreddied Wheath (I still have some of these stuck on my old wardrobe!!)
* Le Crunch Bunch (French Golden Delicious apples)
* Star Wars Return of the Jedi toys
* Biactol face wash
* Bisto ("Never in a month of Sundays")
* One Day Bus Passes
* Batchelors Snack-a-Soup

...Followed by a trailer for school comedy 'Behind the Bike Sheds', before going in to episode two of 'Chocky's Challenge' (even the music is enough to scare children! They wouldn't dare do something like this nowadays.)

I've also uploaded the continuity from before the episode of He-Man as well.
I am still going through all of my old tapes and uploading various clips, so check back regularly!

  • I remember 'Le Crunch Bunch' ad very well as I played the barman in the white jacket..'Frenchy'. I'm 38 now....thanks for putting it on mate.

  • It's a network cue - it told the different ITV regions when a commercial break was due to start. Each ITV company (TVS, HTV, Thames etc) sold its own commercial air time so they each ran different ads. I think this was automated by 1985. Not sure though.

  • Thanks for posting this. This was acutally my 12th birthday!

  • @Stev888 Channel 4 and S4C also had theirs on the top right-hand corner for the same reason.

  • @Twigs47 Also the BBC uses a cue dot which appears on the top left of the screen 30 seconds before the next item or programme.

  • Thanks for uploading this

  • I'm remember rushing home from school every Monday to catch He-man. I'd go mental if I was late and ended up missing any of it. Funny how important shows were back then compared to now where everything in on tap. I also remember Chocky but I think I wasn't old enough to really make much sense of it at the time.

  • I used Biactol... it didn't work. I remain a virgin to this day.

  • Jesus! Star Wars toys up to £51.60! That was a week's wages in 1985!!

  • iwish i was back in 1985 lol the best for kids tv the 80s. fact.

  • Christ, do i remember pestering me mam (gaud bless her!) for those ghostbusters transfers....didn't like me changing my cereal every so often cuz of the freebies...!!

  • I got a portable TV for Christmas '84 so I remember the adverts from the second half of the 80's in particular very well.

    Behind The Bike Sheds featured Lee Sparke who played Gordon 'Jonah' Jones in Grange Hill in 1982/3.
