There was one guy in the village who was concerned about the deforestation. This is the real story of Kabara. They will cut down every large tree to make bowls. The bigger the tree the bigger the bowl. I remember asking the guys what we were going to eat when we went to cut and they just smiled. Lunch was worms from the tree they were huge.
The rain water problem could be caused by all the deforestation that has been going on. Kabara exports bowls that are made from large trees. They use these bowls for kava drinking. I spent 2 months on Kabara in 98. I stayed in lomati. The people were very nice to me. I went with them to cut bowls in the forest. The tree was already down. Everyone has huge chainsaws there.
Missin Fiji-I'm curious if maybe-the lack of rivers and lakes-cause lack of insects flowing into the sea with the rains...Maybe they could help nourish the waters with the resources they have left!!
isa this production is probably one the best i've seen thus far on climate change i especially liked becase it high lighted the experience in fiji vinaka va levu ( thank you)
Gr8 production. Good to Professor Randy Thaman still going strong... Thanks Randy and all the islanders of kabara for this awareness clip.. and thank you to WITNESS producers and presenter.
