  • It's funny how people chalk John Lennon up to be such a humanitarian and brilliant political activist but he was really just a farse and a womanizer. And people are so quick to pass Joe off as just some dude in a punk band but he was so much more of an important social figure then any hippie that came before him preaching about free love and feeling groovy.

  • It is quite weird to just hear the vocal on White Riot. It's awesome though.

  • @disrealixgears I would say john lennon & joe strummer were equally as great no need to put lennon down there mate

  • My heart sinks every time I hear that he was a bully...

  • i read somewhere that Joe strummed his guitar (unplugged) when he did the vox track so he could sing it with the energy and cadence that he wanted. apparently you can hear him bashing the un-amplified electric guitar strings in the background of the track

  • He used to be a living legend... now, just a legend. I miss him as much as you can miss an idol. I wish I could believe that there was some music heaven, or big jam in the sky and he's there, looking down, but we all know that's just touchy-feely-spiritual bullshit. He was here. He made a difference. Now he's gone. Sad, but that's what makes it brilliant. Joe Strummer... top guy.

  • I love this mix of White Riot. Sounds almost like Joe's having a whinge with that vocal, but when the music comes in you can hear the sheer power of everything together.

Also "Punk Rock Warlord" - genius! Bless him.

  • I always spit like that before a conference call.

I get the chills every damn time I see this intro.

  • I am not a Lennon fan, but I still can't help see some parallels between Joe and him. What I can see between them both, they staid firmly rooted in their own truth, regardless of what type of Music they where playing. For me Strummer and The Clash resonate with my spirit.

  • @degree7 I just don't get the Beatles and my hatred of John Lennon simply knows no bounds.

  • @revol148

Excuse me sire, but Abbey Road and Let it Be are excellent works, they are not F*cking terrible, as you describe it.

  • @disrealixgears

And the funny thing is, most of those hippies sold out and became stock brokers or politicians, or yuppies.

Except for George Harrison of course, he was much more of an enlightened figure than Lennon.
