Churchill was furious with the British regs, so he arranged to recruit Scottish Protestant convicts, many of which were on death row.They were nothing more than mercenaries who hated Catholics, when they joined there were not enough uniforms to go round, so they found them what they could including some police uniforms & formed mish-mash of colours.
