My good friend and I decided to put this d17 together because he needed a car asap. His stock D16 threw a rod. THIS WAS NOT INTENDED AS A PERFORMANCE MODIFICATION. IT WAS JUST MEANT TO HAVE HIS CAR RUNNING SO HE COULD GO TO SCHOOL AND BACK. Honda tuning mag said it could not be done because the bell housings were different. Honda tuning also claimed that the head physically would not fit. This car has been running over 6 months now with no problems. only slight modification has to be made. its a d17a2 block with a d16y7 head. a vtec head was intended but one was not available at the time. since the bottom end was the only thing changed, no fuel injection changes had to be made. you may choose to believe it or not, but a well trained D series eye will in fact tell you that the head is a legitimate d16 and the block a d17. note, the engine seems loud because the mic on the camera is really sensitive. if one were to be standing next to it, you can barely hear the motor run

  • Nice job...man a friend of mine just asked if the d17s matched up with the rest of SOHC D series...didnt know what to tell him til now lol. And to all the haters that made comments if you actually know what youre talking about then take another look and you will see a D16 head on top of D17A2 block...and correct me if Im wrong but looks like the D17 intake manifold, throttle body, and valve cover...

  • it looks as if the d16 block is re-stamped to d17a2... and just the valve cover n airbox belongs to d17... rest is all d16....

  • dude you shouldn't of swap a d16y8 head with a vtec and put it on d16y7. thats the best shit man. unless you dont want to get a d16y8 then just do like i say. i have a d16y7, i swap it with a d16y8 transmission on my d16y7. now i got quick gear ratio. i was going to do a vtec with my y7 but it too much work and no money. i come up with my mind C/E that mean CX and EX, put it together C/E. cool huh.

  • was wondering how did u deal with the 2 oil return lines on the front of the motor ? u drill threw the head or did u just block them off i know u can drill them but u need to put a sleeve because it runs threw a waterjacked and vary close to the front of the head to how did u solve thiss problem i was thinking just leave them closed and make the inside of the head soft so the oil can wash to the back of the head insted what u think
