  • Dave, Why didn't you just swap the solonoid part from the starter with another one on your spare strarters ? Most ford stuff in Austrailia runs Bosch starters and the solonoid off any bosch started will fit onto it.

  • @hurenkamp it would be more work to remove the starter then.

  • @Davidsfarmlives Did you make sure you sprayed some die electric grease on the copper terminals to keep them from corroding?

  • @JimmyRayhere oops , good idea

  • The circuit you came up with to fix this Ford is how Ford set my '85 up from the factory. On mine, the high-current comes out of the fender mounted solenoid, runs down to the one on the starter which is there solely to engage the bendix, and then when that engages power is sent to the armature and the engine turns. Simple and reliable, not sure why they changed it.

  • @hurenkamp not entirely true dude, there are plenty of variations and types of bosch starter motor....

  • i have that same truck but a 99 the engines were made in canada thats why there called the essex 4.2l motor the only problem the had was the 97s and 98s had some kind of issue with the intake gasket being to thin and blowing

  • cheers and beers indeed dave farm rocks

  • wery good to se you up on youtube for real again Dave, missed your great explinations:) Keep up the good work

  • Hi Dave my starter wont engage with the flywheel.it spins fine and turns the engine when it engages. which bit do i change or is it just a rebuild? i did have it off before and sprayed oil on it and tried to get the clutch dust out.
