Just finishing up moving 19 SEER Heat pump around a house. First time using my new Testo 550 to charge a unit. I had pumped all but 1.5 oz back into the unit. Added 25 ' of line set and reinstalled the heat pump. Triple evacuated the line set and coil using nitrogen. Then weighed in 1lb of R410A using my analog R410A guages. Did final charging using the Testo 550. Still 7 oz shy. Check the manual and found that this coil match would have required 7 oz. Oh by the way the original line set was 15' I added another 25'. Love this tool. Real measurement and calculation in real time.

  • would love to see some more videos, you do great work. I especially liked the ma-line pieces when you and fritz were doing static pressures. very informative. and as always thanks for your videos.

  • @mrmickeymax79 Thanks, There's so much going on all the time it's hard to find time to shoot or upload videos.

  • Do these new R410 units pull more current than the R-22 units ????? If they are pulling more current, then what good are they, other than waisting more energy... In the RV biz, the units on top have switched from R22 to R410 and now the A/C units are pulling more currrent, in return it is putting more strain on a trailer that has a 30 amp service....

  • @avionicswirenut I'm not sure. The only way to tell would be to compare identical units. Almost identical. One that uses r22 & one that uses r410a. R410a does require about 20% more refrigerant. I don't like the properties of the oil that r410a uses. Very susceptible to moisture contamination whereas mineral oil found in systems using r22 are not so susceptible. What good is r410a? not that good. Thank Al Gore and his ilk. At least they could use a better oil.

  • flushing the lineset with r-22 would that be E P A NO NO. I bought the yellow jacket bending tool after seeing you use it . I saved on fittings and i used swaging kit for when i did need a fitting .I would like to by the testo manifold set but the bender i bought looks like a hundred years old already.we are rough with my tools i guess.

  • @tstatech , thanks, I just got my 550, I figured out that the temp probes/clamps have to be plugged into the unit before you turn it on or it will not recognize the sensors.

just quickly turning the thing off and back on again does the trick too. Thanks dude, superheat and subcool has never been so easy!

  • @koop1969 I think it's the arrow (up/down) buttons.

  • @tstatech What button did you push to get your superheat temp?

  • @FoxGraeme I only use this manifold and hoses on R410a. I still use my old analog set along with my trusty cooper thermometer for R22. I don't mess with many other refrigerants. Maybe a little R12 back and R502 back in the day + 134a when my Van needs a little shot of the juice.

I blow the 550's out with nitrogen after each use just to keep the sensors from bathing in oil all the time and so I don't introduce moisture laden oil into the next system.

  • I use the refco gauges very similar to these, been using them for about 3 years now - best tool I ever bought. In the UK (I'm in Scotland) we don't really use R22 much anymore, mostly R410a on splits and heat pumps but you should really change your hoses when using with different gases / oils. I've used my set with R134a, r404a, r410a, r22, r502, r417a - and that doesn't scratch the surface of the built in database.

Every serious fridge tech should have a set of these.
