  • You said a big mouthful Oaktownrob. The Black churches of all people should be ashamed for the way they've abandoned hymn in the place of rock "gospel" and modern renditions of everything, copying their songs and order of service from other people, saying this is the way to "draw" young people. I always thought the Holy Spirit was the One who drew people (of ALL ages).

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful example of 'Linin a hymn. God knows, this type of congregational singing is passing from the scene.Sadly for the youth, many churches now have simply done away with hymns, spirituals and well rehearsed anthems. ALL of these are part of a rich cultural heritage. This is a beautiful tribute!

  • Today's gospel has no soul.

  • Yes, it's our cultural heritage and deserves to be preserved. But the power of music in worship stems at least in part from its ability to reach people where they ARE -not where they used to be. This type of lining out is our tradition because we brought it with us on the ships from Africa and it grew and thrived on this barren soil. Nowadays our youth march to the tunes of a different drummer. So if you want to reach them, you have to at least begin to approach them in the language they speak.

  • I love this music. Does anyone know if there is a CD for this group? I would like to buy it or better yet attend a concert by hymm choir. I live in Charlotte, NC. Email address is anitabaker22@att.net

  • @MsJaxxee I agree but music evolves with time. At one point this same style of singing in church was deemed sacrilegious. The Spirituals were not accepted and even hymns were at one point the equivalent of "rock" music in church. To each his own.

  • @eldnheard2 : I ment to say keep OUR young men in the Church.

  • @Oaktownrob : Only because they can do it. We tryed endlessly to install this in them and train them many years ago. So we came up with something to keep out young men in the church and able to carry on when we are gone that is to do what's in their hearts. However, if I knew then what I see to day, well let's just say I would have prayed a lot longer and a lot harder! Now a days they won't even listen.

  • this song is also known as cwm rhondda.

  • @Gottalovemusic2 you best be in that pew every time the Church is open too? Jesus loves you just as much...

  • i am well familiar with the Welsh choral roots of this hymn personally and as a pastor and love those versions... Love this one too... Thank you brothers and sisters in our Lord and Savior Jesus!

    Amen.

  • ST. PAUL BAPTIST CHURCH IS MY MOTHERS CHURCH. SHE GREW UP AND MARRIED MY FATHER HERE. SHE CAME BACK AFTER 40 YEARS OF BEING IN NEW YORK. THIS IS WHERE HER FUNERAL WAS. SHE HAS A PEW WITH HER NAME ON IT HERE.
