They wanted to insure security for the pipeline contstruction and the Taliban were the only ones who could provide it. Project stalled after Taliban started entertaining a better offer from Russia/Iran on the construction of a different pipline location. After we invaded Afghanistan, Karzai was "democratically" elected. What a coincidence! The air bases we built over there follow the path of this projected pipeline (Unocal made plans public info in 1996). Another coincidence!

Karzai was a consultant to then Unocal (Chevron owns currently) in 1996. Unocal was an american company based in Houston, Texas. Karzai was on Unocal's payroll in the 90's.  Karzai helped set up a meeting with the Taliban and Unocal executives on building a oil pipline in Afghnaistan way back then.

And the moderate policy of Obama clearly supports the Iranian opposition, that is always easily blamed to be supported by US war-maniacs. (Don't forget operation Ajax. For the Iranian people it is still important that the US fucked their democracy, because of nationalizing the oil and installed the shah dictatorship)
