Since i recently read something about "circuit bending" and found some quite interesting videos about it at youtube i decided to do my own work on an old Yamaha-Keyboard. It's my first circuit-bend...

  • Prior to this, how much experience in electronics did you have? Because, I want to try this and I have zilch. How hard was it to do?

  • Hi.

ok, i have the advantage that i learned a job as an electrician. But the only thing you need is to solder. With a little practise it shouldn't be that hard. Try to connect some pins from the large chips (ICs). When you have a good effect solder a switch to it.

If you stay away from the area, where the power-supply is plugged in nothing bad should happen. Maybe the keyboard goes off. Then you just have to disconnect and reconnect the power-supply and it should work as normal.

    hope this helps

  • @Raunchola I have been experimenting with my PSS-280 by having a piece of wire and connecting it to different bits of the IC. I've been having great fun! What annoys me is that the bottom of the unit opens up so you have to have it upside down! So, I can't play any notes without soldering anything and I have no solder. I will have to by tiny crocodile clips. I WILL post a video once I'm done!

  • @MusicalArmageddon

Yeah, i always have this problem turning the keyboard upside down. I used to start an accomp-melody and then started poking on the ICs.

hmm... i think these crocodile-clips come in very handy... ^^

i'm looking forward to watch a video once you upload it. ;)

  • @Raunchola You have miniscule crocodile clips that fit on the chip's pins? Where did you get them from?!?

I have managed to get the effect from the top switch and the middle switch, but not the bottom switch. I'm making a spreadsheet in Excel of the best effects for this keyboard and will upload it once done. Could you add the effects you used too?

  • @MusicalArmageddon

    hehe, no i don't have crocodile-clips... ^^

and it's quite hard to relocate all the bends i did on this one because i had only a bunch of different wires and it looks pretty confusing and messy inside. i can send you a PM where you can see how it looks inside my 290.

another tip: try combining the ICs with your piece of wire.

  • Haha, that's great! My grandpa has one of these.

Love the sound the bottom toggle-switch alone does, sounds like a kinda 'warm' distortion.
