Sen. Murkowski participated in an event congratulating Lori Bell of Elmendorf Air Force Base for being named the 2010 Military Spouse of the Year by Military Spouse Magazine.

Mrs. Bell herself served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years and deployed twice. She is married to Lt. Col. Kenyon Bell of the U.S. Air Force. The Bells and their two children make their home at Elmendorf Air Force Base. In her remarks, Mrs. Bell said being recognized as the spouse of the year means she represents, over a million spouseswho are the backbones of our force. She added that being a spouse was about making our families and communities better because were all a part of it.

Murkowski, in her remarks said, I applaud you and I am so pleased that you have been recognized today for not only your accomplishments, but who you are and the support that you are for so many. It is nothing short of inspirational.

Mrs. Bell received her award on Thursday, May 07, 2010, at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
