I couldn't find a video of this model before I bought one, so I made one for you. This is the first time I have used this snowblower. I need some practice. It sure beats shoveling!
This is the 4 cycle model and so far I am very pleased with it. This snow was about 8 to 10" deep and very light. The snow plow had been by already and the snow at the end of the driveway was deeper and packed more densely. The blower moved a little slower, but didn't bog down at all. This unit is easier to use than my self propelled lawn mower. I am very glad that I got the single stage. I have seen my neighbor do two driveways with a single stage Toro in the same amount of time that another neighbor did half of one driveway with a two stage. I have only used this once so far and I'm sure I will have to shovel ice chunks from the snow plow some day, but I don't care. This thing makes clearing the driveway a joy. The "Quick chute" and "zip deflector" are fun and easy to use. If you are looking for your next snowblower, even if you already have a two stage. Do yourself a favor and check one of these out.

  • bdac2k, I think I know what you are talking about. I believe that both of those times you mention are when going from a load to no load. I am sure that is normal and I haven't noticed it affecting performance. My Honda pressure washer does the same thing when I stop spraying water. Make sure you have Oil in it. Ha!

As for the choke, my garage is insulated and it seldom gets below freezing in there. I think I let it warm up about 30 seconds before turning off the choke and moving snow.

  • nice video!

Since the driveway on our recently-purchased home is brick (not perfectly flat and even) I'm leaning towards a single stage SB, and a Toro seems to be the best bet.

Were you happy with yours for the entire winter?

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the 421Q and 621Q and having a difficult time (except for price they seem to have the same specs.).

thanks again for taking the time to post the vid and your thoughts!

  • @kedelbach I am not sure about the brick driveway. I am sure it will work fine. I would assume that the rubber auger will need to be replaced a little more frequently if used on a rough surface.

I was happy with the snowblower for the entire winter. When I was changing the oil I wondered if I should have gotten a 2 cycle. I do think it is slightly quieter and less smelly than the 2 cycle, so I am still happy with my choice.

  • @kedelbach I am not sure what the differences are between the 421Q and the 621Q. I know my 421Q had a recall that I took care of this summer. I believe it was a carburetor part that was susceptible to corrosion. A complete guess would be that the 621Q has the new carburetor on it. Again, I have no idea. I would suggest asking the sales / service person at your local store.

My serial number starts with 311 so I believe it is a 2011 model even though I purchased it in Fall of 2010.

  • Great vid ! How heavy is it ?

  • @terraspec I was not sure, so I googled it. I know I can lift it by myself onto a trailer. Snowblowersdirect claims it is 84lbs. It seems about the same as my self propelled lawn mower.

  • Do you have any issues with engine surging? I bought a 621R (same specs) and it surges badly. I can start the blower with the choke fully on, but if I close the choke all the way, the engine cuts off therefore, I need to run the engine at 50% choke until the engine fully warms up. I can faintly hear the surging in your video at 15sec and 36 seconds. I was wondering if you have experienced any issues or if the surging effects snow clearing performance.

  • these little things rip through the snow better then some 2 stages! great vid!

  • Nice Video! The difference between the 421 & the 621 is the year. Last year we had the 221's & the 421's. The 1st number designated if the unit was 2-cycle or 4-cycle. the 2nd number was the clearing width, which on this machine is 21". For the 2011-2012 Winter Season, Toro changed the number to a 621 with the 1st number no longer representing the type of engine. Bottom line is that the 421 & 621 are identical and use the same engine. QZR is Quick Chute, Zip Deflector & Electric Start.

  • @poisedonis I'm trying to decide between a 421Q and a 621Q, but can't seem to figure out what the difference is. Do you know? Maybe the 621 is the 2011 model?
