Hey Sis, that's not quite how you do dreads. And if you have a relaxer on your hair, it will not work. Your hair has to be natural, and nappy in order for it to lock.

Grow that perm out and then loc your hair.

Actually you CAN start dreads with a relaxer in your hair, so don't believe the myth. You can use wool yarn or kinky textured hair to start them off and cut them off once you get to the length you want. That or you can wait a little while to get some new growth then either neglect your hair or start your hair off in twists with a thick beeswax (not the black variety). Plus, you can STILL back-comb for a more freeform look.

I was thinkin about dreading mine up... but your video has encouraged me to just keep pushing forward with my natural hair loose and free... you have confused me ma'am

I did it that way because I didn't know about all of the other ways that you can start locs. So I did the back-combing. It took me a long time to do. If I knew what I know now I probably would have started my locs by comb-twisting but there is nothing wrong with back-combing it worked for me it just takes a long time to do.
