A more than brilliant version of Hellfire from the Hunchback of Notre Dame! I tried to translate the Latin parts into English, that was not as easy as you might think. The most important parts are right, in any case: Mea culpa and mea maxima culpa! If you ask me this is a masterpiece, and thats why I love Disney films: When you watch them as a teenager or adult you notice things you didnt see when you were little. In my opinion this songs describes Frollos feeling perfectly, the lyrics are very good, and so is his voice.
I didn't find any suitable translations for "Weib", which used to be a normal word for woman, but nowadays you use it as an insulting expression. All the English words I found were referring to old women and stuff, so I ended up translating "Teufelsweib" literally.

tanzen - to dance
sehen - to see
das/die Auge(n) - eye(s)
schwarz - black
das/die Haar(e) - hair
die Hexe(n) - witch(es)
lichterloh brennen - to be ablaze
brennen - to burn

I don't own this video, The Hunchback of Notre Dame belongs to Disney!

  • Thank you for translating the Latin lines.

I never saw a translation of them anywhere, so it's nice to know what they mean :)

    Good work.

  • Greek too! "Kyrie Eleison!"

  • @naiko996 translate it better!

  • The latin traslation is wrong!

  • yay it has the Latin translation too!

  • @PeepMeowMusic Da liegst du richtig. :) ShogunGin0 hat aber nach der heutigen Bedeutung gefragt, die wir dann bilingual erörtert haben.

  • @Melilotona soweit ich weiß, hat man früher einfach Weib statt Frau gesagt. das war normal - ohne einen negativen Hintergrund. aber 100% sicher bin ich mir nicht.

  • Frolo will find the one hater of this video, and cast them into the fires of hell!

  • @ShogunGin0 Alright! :) Thanks for this suggestion. I'd love to re-translate several songs (for example this one) and when I find the time I'll consider the hints native speakers gave me. I'm grateful for help and appreciate people who share their knowledge with others.

  • @Melilotona If that is so, then perhaps "wretched she-devil/devil-woman" might be best. In any case, I'd say you're pretty accurate already.

  • @ShogunGin0 Thanks for the definition. To me it doesn't seem to be a good translation for Weib, because Weib does not describe the woman's class. When a woman is called "Weib" the speaker implies that he doesn't like her at all, perhaps that she's dumb and/or ugly, but not necessarily promiscuous or poor.

  • @Melilotona It could me a prostitute, but only in archaic context. It generally implies the woman is of lower class. However, it always implies that she is promiscuous. Think an older word for "slutty woman".
