Beginning wood turning. A look at the components that make-up the wood lathe and view their functions. introduction to basic lathe tools and practice cuts. Please see Part 2 of 2 for a Hands-on cutting exercise.
Ive only just started turning wood, but ive noticed all the shops i spend time at have the same motto. "make sure there are no full beers around to compromise my safety while using powered equipment!" Keep turnin' fellas!
Thank you so much. I'm thinking about getting a lathe and learning turning, and this was VERY helpful. You've given me the confidence to give it a try.
Nice intro Guy! I was just give an old Sears lathe. People make fun of them on "serious" wood turning blogs. Well this is, by a country mile, the most fun machine I've ever owned. The turning part goes almost too fast. You can finish sand it right on the machine. That goes really fast. And I've even stained and applied a rub-finish. And it all turns out great. I love it. I look forward to seeing some more of your projects.
Great intoduction! I am in complete agreement with you when it comes to spending a little more to ensure you are going to receive quality tools and equipment. With a little practice, the best tools always produce the best work!
