@vhfanjack, I think he just means the music Dave worked on prior to his departure was under working title "Eat Thy Neighbour". When Sam joined band, they took music and re-named it "Summer Nights". A reasonable possibility. "Hang 'em High" from Diver Down album originally started out as song "Last Night". Nobody knows for sure. Some say ETN was completely different song from Summer Nights.

I'm gonna settle this once and for all. Listen to the guitar from 0:10-0:36. Those are the EXACT same notes Eddie did for the song "Ripley" for the movie score for "The Wild Life" back in 1984. THAT'S how I know for sure that this IS in fact, Eddie playing.
