A video of my safety razor and the slight problem it has. If anyone can offer any suggestions, I would be very thankful.

  • The looseness is probably the way the mechanism should work, or it got loosened up over the decades - I don't know, I was born in the 80s. Mine is also a bit loose, just like yours, but it doesn't matter if I do or don't push it up while closing the razor, it closes nicely anyway. Despite this looseness, it works swell and it's a fantastic shaver. If it shaves well, I don't see a reason you should risk taking it apart, although I recommend cleaning it thoroughly - if you didn't do so already.

  • @I967 I'm not planning on taking it apart, especially since it still shaves well. It's not a big deal simply a minor inconvenience, it does like a beaut though.

  • I just got a 1952 Superspeed a couple of weeks ago and it does the same thing. I wonder if it is just the nature of the beast, so to speak. I put a couple of drops of sewing machine oil down the handle and a couple of more down the center post with the razor open, then worked the mechanism several times and there was some improvement. I wonder if there is just an accumulation of gunk in the mechanism. Anyway, it is a great shaver. Enjoy!

  • @blueguitarrondo it is indeed a great shaver, I believe the tto mechanism has loosened over time. The razor still works though just have to push it up while twisting.

  • Nice gillette vintage safetyrazor you've got Tony. I also have a 40's style superspeed razor(watch my video where I show my collection of safetyrazors!) It's really a nice razor and it shaves pretty well. It's a good razor also when you are new into DE wetshaving.

    Take care!

  • Pretty easy to fix, just recrimp the barrel where it hold the knob. See this forum thread at Badger & Blade thread # 122282

  • I have the same style. They are the best shave with a Derby blade!

This is what you do...forget about that broken piece of a "shit razor" he so generously gave you, go on eBay and buy a decent one for around $20 to $40 and give back that worthless piece of junk back to your worthless no good for nothing godfather!

  • I bought a 1958 TV superspeed can't wait to get it.
