This is the second movement soli for Contrabassoon and 1st Bassoon. See "Contrabassoon Shostakovich 5 part 2" for sequel (repeat of second half of this excerpt with "more life")

  • What contra do you use? I mostly play on my teacher's 1938 Mollenhauer, though this weekend I'll perform this Symphony on a Moosmann. Love this solo!

  • That's a Schreiber owned by our Orchestra over here. Not in the best of shape, but we make do. Yes, this moment a fun one for the ContraBassoon . . .

  • You're really good, and with such a hard solo, you must be near passing out after that. But yeah excellent!!!

  • Thanks for the praise! Actually there isn't as much danger passing out here as there is after having to play lonnngggg notes, like at the beginning of Zarathustra.

  • What orchestra is that?

  • I guess THAT Orchestra would be the one pertaining to the Terre Haute Artists' Theater (T.H.A.T)?

thought you were even wearing a tie (!!)

thanks for all the links! cheeers! (PS love the comment about the bored french bass trombonist - he s probably only awake when he's blasting your ears off ...)

  • How much was that contrabassoon i got a regular bassoon im trying to be able to play 2 types of bassoons.

  • Where can I find the shhet music for this piece? I tried googling it but no success.

    Somebody might help.

  • Very nice playing! Has anyone ever told you that you that you look like a young Jeff Goldbloom? hehe

  • Looks like it's in much better shape then the contra I have to play on. The college owns a Puchner..... and it's so old it has no tuning slide.

  • a very very very funny mix of great music on the contrabassoon. Man, I wish I could play one without scaring the neighbours...

  • Ok. Well done. What orchestra are you with? I'm contrabassoon/utility 3'd with Rainier Symphony.
