During my recent trip to Kg Renglas, an Orang Asli settlement in the rural area of Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, my friends and I visited one of the families. This family shared their disappointment with us with regards to the construction the government was carrying out nearby their village.

Earlier that day, we saw a newly built solar power plant on the way to the village. The government made a deal with the villagers, offering compensation in exchange for their land to build the plant. The Orang Asli families were given RM50,000 - RM100,000 in exchange for their farming land. Being the docile people they are, they agreed, not realising that they have been conned. The deal was a one-off payment and there will be no more future compensations. A better deal would be renting the land out for as long as it takes but our dear leaders had more selfish rewarding plans in store for them.

The river flowing to the village was polluted as a result of the construction. The villagers now have to live with murky water as the river is their main source of water. They don't have other means of water supply. To worsen the situation, most of the villagers do not know how to manage their money properly since the government clearly did not educate them on finance management. Soon the money will run out completely while new flat-screen TVs and expensive vehicles pop up among the torn bamboo houses.

Dear leaders, while you guys are busy fighting over the usage of a word in a particular book of a certain faith, these villagers are fighting to exist. You preach 1Malaysia but here is our own people being manipulated and misled by YOU self-centered nincompoops!

Seriously, when will you ever wake up and see the needs of our people? When will you finally offer to help the powerless and stop helping the complacent? The amount of time and money spent on winning the debate of religious rights could be used for all the right reasons.

We spoke to other families as well but to post everything here will just be too depressing. All I can say is: Dear Malaysia, it's time to get off our butts and start standing for what is right.

Malaysia boleh. Uh huh. Yea. Sure.

Whoever who's reading this, the least you could do to help is to spread the news

Sekian, terima kasih.

  • @fuadgoesforpeace They are also building roads to access the village, but when they don't clean up the construction mess, that's when more gunk flows into the river.

  • @fuadgoesforpeace Industrial, a solar power plant was built right outside the entrance to their village, causing the rivers to be polluted. Who's doing this? :) Try to think who would have the rights to carry out such big projects and rich enough to pay the villagers for their land.

  • what construction are they talking about? resort or industrial? how come it makes our rivers dirty?? who is doing this?
