Hamp's 1947 recorded version is one for the ages, easily up their with the fabled recordings of the tune by Louis, Shaw, Desmond and others. Each soloist's voice comes through memorably on their instrument, esp. Slam Stewart and Charlie Shavers. The guy was under-appreciated after the '60s, but he was playing blues as well as Bags and "Giant Steps" in the 80s and 90s.

Come on ....this guy ain't just good, he's bloody brilliant !!

tijdloze wereldklasse. Mag nooit vergeten worden.

The quotation at 2.30 is from the song "Pretty baby" it always appears in Hamps version see the 1947 version and also the 1954 Apollo Hall concert in Amsterdam. I've just noticed that this concert is on CD I must get round to ordering it, my vinyl version is worn out

this is as good as the 1954 Apollo Hall concert in Holland, where is the rest of this gem ??
-
