Grosse Ile Bridge Company Director of Community and Government Relations Greg Karmazin's questions for Grosse Ile Police Chief Bill Barron and Grosse Ile Fire Chief Duncan Murdock show that Grosse Ile Township has "control" of the Toll Bridge during emergency situations and the GIBC's existing protocols are sufficient for, and consistent with, Grosse Ile's updated Emergency Response Plan.
Now that the township board's claim that they can't control the toll bridge during emergencies has been proven false in this video, they've dragged out the old "RTRR-Matty Maroun is coming to get us" scare story. Why didn't they explore the possibility of making an agreement with the bridge company back in 2003 to team defend the toll bridge in case of attack? Why was suing Smoke the only solution in 2003 to a threat that 4 years later doesn't even exist?

I've never understood why the township sued the Toll Bridge Company. Let's see Wayne County wants to sell the Free Bridge for a buck, but the township says no. They've spent $400,000 or more of our taxes to try to take the Toll Bridge and failed. What's wrong with this picture?

This is a perfect example of why the township board should not have rushed into suing the Bridge Co. Why didn't they at least sit down and talk with Mr. Smoke before they sued him? If the township board's best argument for the lawsuit is now proven to be false, why are they continuing to spend Islanders' tax dollars to pursue this fight which they started and are losing badly? What a waste. What a shame.
