Actually the elevation and angle depend of the distance from the cueball to the ball you try to jump. He also forgot to mention that the best way is to grip the cue very light and aim like a normal shot and just stand up, also the backarm is best to be in a straightdown position and not with an offstroke.

I seen a lot of good players using a jump cue: Alex Pagulayan, Francisco Bustamante, Efren Reyes, Larry Nevel. Fact is it is easier with a jump cue then a regular playing cue, some people don't like to use it because it is nicer to see a kick shot then a jump. But it is about personal preffernce.

I know that jumping a ball, while hitting the cueball below center is considered a foul shot. Maybe you have some different rules, but I compete and the propper way to jump (calling a jump is only in 8 ball and 10 ball) is to strike from above with an angle and above the center of the cueball.

u poor nobb that is legal ilegal is when u aim at the cue ball really low and chip it up
-
no, thats legal. illegal when u aim at the cue ball really low and chip it up. this is legal

illegal shot
-
yea. but you hit the cue ball hard enough/ with enough force that it jumps. plus i didnt say anything about scooping the ball - which is illegal. i do this in matches all the time and no one has ever said i was playing an illegal shot.............
maybe you play with people who don't know a lot about billiards but your way is definitely an illegal shot. there's only one way to legally jump a ball, and the way in this video is it.

wow nobel prize winner here...of course you bank if you can...but if its going to be more than 2-3 banks then it would be sometimes easier to jump (or play safe)
