Bob Sheppard (10/20/1910-7/11/2010) was the voice of Yankee Stadium for 57 seasons, 1951-2007. This video features his delivery of a complete introduction, line-ups, and umpires in a NY Yankee game vs. Detroit in May of 1976 shortly after the refurbished Yankee Stadium was opened. Hear Bob at his Clear-Concise-Correct best deliver a line-up on a wet Tuesday night in May as if its the 7th game of the World Series. The audio under the pictures was recorded by archivist Joey Cooperman from the grandstand that night.
Bob was a genuinely admirable human being and a gentleman of the old school who represented a bygone era of aspiration and dignity. The sacred eloquence that Bob's work represented and epitomized has now officially past. He was a credit to his faith, his family, his friends, and to sports. He possessed unrivaled character, integrity, courage, and class. How lucky I was to even know this exceptional man since his sterling influence on my life echoed through to my very heart and soul. I shall miss him terribly. We shall all miss the magnificent Robert Leo Sheppard.
Thank you Sheppard fans!!
Brings back so many memories Bob Sheppard is what PA guys should sound like for Champions, Not screaming maniacs like Paul Porter for the Orlando Magic

Bob Sheppard had NO peer. He was the very best public address announcer in all of sports.

May 11, 1976.Game delayed by rain 37 minutes in the 2nd inning.NY scored 2 in 8th to take 3-1 lead. One run came when Piniella squeezed home Munson.Tigers would rally for 3 in 9th to win 4-3.All the runs came off Figueroa who completed the game.Yanks bullpen was rested since they'd had an off day following a 4-3 ,12 inning loss in Oakland two days before. In that game Catfish Hunter had gone the entire 11 & 2/3 innings.

What a collection of characters, just on the Tigers alone. LeFlore, jail to baseball glory. The troubled Alex Johnson. No, that's not the Willie Horton from the 1988 Presidential election, this one was and is a good guy. Le Grand Orange.
I looked it up: Ed Figueroa pitched well, but ran out of gas in the 9th, and the Yanks lost 4-3. Almost exactly what happened in my first live game, 5/27/1978 against Toronto, Figgy lost it in the 9th, 4-1, triple by Rick Bosetti.
