We are part of a goat share program in southern Indiana and when the goat we sponsor went into labor this morning her owner called us and we got to film the birth! What an amazing experience!

  • How much milk can you expect from a Saanen Goat?

I'm hoping to buy one in the near future.

  • I am not sure - these are my friend's goats. I am sure you could Google the answer. Good luck.

  • Why didn't they let them nurse naturally? Why did they bottle feed them?

  • We bottle feed all of the kids so that they will bond with humans and be easier to handle. The one that they let nurse from the doe is wild and runs away which is dangerous for everyone.

  • I don't think they knew what they were doing. You're not supposed to pull them out like that.

  • This video is time condensed so you can't tell that the doe was in hard labor for several hours and was actually having a very difficult time with the delivery. At one point we were concerned about the welfare of both the doe and the kids. Plus, the second kid was a complete surprise. Both the mother and the kids are doing great now!

  • What a wonderful video. This brought some good memories back. My Papa used to raise Sheep's and we got to see some of the birth and some time there were twins in it. And there were times where the mother would reject one of the twins and we had to bottle feed them. For us kids it was fun raising the baby sheep with the bottle. Thanks for sharing your video and for bringing back some good memories ! ;o)

  • @gokory

Just spend some time with them.

    They'll get used to you:-)

  • @spyroterra

    Nice :-)

My Saanen doe had 2 in June.

I came out in the morning to feed them as usual, and their they were!

I let mine feed off their mother till they she weaned them.

They tamed down pretty fast(but I also spend some time with my animals)....

  • Saanens should give at least a gallon a day to two gallons a day if you have a really good milker.

This was wonderful! I am sitting around waiting for our Nubian doe to go into active lablr, and this was great to show the kids. Nice job, and what a BEAUTIFUL Sable! How lucky!

  • This is the first I have watched a birth. And meanwhile we are going to feed saanen goats in Turkey. I am so excited. But I dont think I could help goats when they are giving birth : )

  • i have pygmys and i can't milk them they just had kids and how can i get them to be tame and not seperate them from mom

  • Thank You for responding. Where is your farm located? How many goats do you have? Do you sell the milk commercially? I am interested in finding out more about dairy goats. Thank You
